Blogging and News Analysis Internship
We’re looking for news junkies or aspiring journalists who want to track this summer’s hottest issues and analyze how traditional and new media sources cover them.
You’ll start each day scanning news from blogs and online sources using our news tracking tool Managing News. You’ll follow long term stories like the elections, rising food and fuel prices, and the crisis in Darfur. You'll also help identify emerging stories and scandals. When you spot a story – whether that’s a new trend, a breaking issue, or a concern about the media's coverage of a story itself – you’ll write about it for our blog. You'll get top-notch experience with the most cutting edge tools for tracking and analyzing news online, and you'll be publishing your own writing under your own name.
What for? Managing News is leaving "beta" and we’re releasing it as a product this summer. We want you to help show what it can do by using it to follow the news and write about your findings. We’re most interested in stories around politics, international development, technology, and Washington, DC.
We're looking for someone who...
- Is passionate about current events and the media
- Reads blogs and uses new media like Twitter and Facebook
- Knows to question the news and not take it at face value
- Likes trying out new technology. Managing News is easy to use, but you need to be up for learning how to use it like a pro.
- Is creative. There’s a lot of flexibility with this position and you can take it in a direction that motivates you.
- Is okay with helping out with other jobs around the office. We won’t ask you to make coffee or sort the recycling, but we might ask you to research new laser printers or look into new online outreach avenues.
Other pluses include the ability to read other languages, interest in activism, and foosball skills.
We’re a young team who’s passionate about activism, technology, and helping advance progressive causes by giving organizations tools that let them do their work better. We work hard and have a lot of fun doing it.
If this interests you and you’re looking for a summer internship that doesn’t require a tie and a cubicle, send a note and your resume to jobs@managingnews.com.
